Slip and Slide versus a Tarp
When researching slip and slides I also took into consideration using a tarp. Tarps can be effective as slip and slides but you need to take into consideration your own backyard. There are a few advantages of slip and slides. They are usually long and narrow where tarps are usually square or rectangle. Slip and slides also have a hose attachment to get water all over the slide. When you use a tarp you will end up with puddles of water and dry spots depending on how level your yard is. The third thing to consider is that tarps or clear plastic sheets generally need soap (and a lot of it) to make it slippery. If you have kids with sensitive skin, you are going to want to take this into consideration.
How To Make a Slip and Slide
If you want to go this route. I have the perfect setup for you. You want to get yourself some heavy duty clear plastic. I suggest this one. It is 10ft by 100ft and is construction grade. You will also need soap. Dish soap is very slippery but can sting the eyes. Use a tearfree baby shampoo to make the fun last longer! You can also use baby oil or shampoo or body wash. You are also going to need a garden hose and a sprinkler to keep the water moving on your slip and slide. I suggest this sprinkler for good distribution on your slide!
Are Slip and Slides Safe?
Slip and Slides can result in severe injuries. Ensure you follow the manufacturer’s safety information. Parents should supervise and use caution when allowing their children to use slip and slides.

2021’s Best Backyard Slip and Slides

I have put together as many different buying options as I could to allow you to check each store and see which ones have stock and can deliver quickly.
Intex Surf and Slide
The Intex Surf and Slide waterslide is one of the most popular lawn water slides you can buy this season!. It is part inflatable and generously sized! While the instructions say for ages 6+ I am certain that younger children will also have fun on this blow-up slide and that children that are much older than 6 will not be able to use it very easily. Consider an electric pump if you choose to purchase this as a foot pump will take a while to inflate. It is 15 feet long and over 5 feet wide, so probably a lot bigger than you are expecting! It has a padded landing mat and a water streamer from the top of the slide.

River Race Inflatable Water Slide
While not a traditional slip and slide the Little Tikes Water Slide Rocky Mountain River Race is a giant inflatable water slide that features a climbing wall, two slides, and a splash pool. Its design allows children to race to the top and slide down to the bottom. This Little Tykes water slide is over 8.5 feet tall and is well designed for children aged 5-10, however, putting 4 10-year-olds on it at once would probably tax its weight and size limits. But 4 five-year-olds should be able to play on it with relative ease. It is a constant blow bouncer and comes with the Little Tykes heavy-duty blower, stakes, and repair kit, and a storage bag. I personally like Little Tykes and have had good quality products from them in the past (including a bouncy castle). This product has literally sold over a thousand units online, which speaks to the brand, the quality, and the reliability. It is easy to see why I put it in my quick picks for the best inflatable water park!
Little Tykes Water Slide Inflatable
- Dimensions: 161 x 169 x 103 inches
- Product weight 45 lbs
- Requires: garden hose and needs to be plugged in
- Manufacturer’s recommended age 5-10 years.
Banzai My First Water Slide
The My First Water Slide from Banzai again is a different design than a traditional slip and slide but is a great option for toddlers. I love the design of this water slide because little ones can slide down into the pool and stay cool! It is also shallow enough for them to get in and out themselves. My first water slide is a toddler-sized pool with an inflatable slide and splash pool. The Splash pool has an air-filled landing pad at the bottom. This water slide and pool comes with the inflatable slide, inflatable splash pool, 1 plastic hose connector, and 1 repair patch.
Banzai My First Slide:

Accessories for your Slip and Slide
There are a few things that you need for your slip and slide and a few optional accessories you can purchase. The first thing you need is a garden hose. One of the fun accessories you can buy is an inflatable rider. You can see it in the photo below. They are inexpensive and a fun add-on to any slip and slide! Another optional idea is to add a small splash pool. The hose water can often be very cold and having a pool full of water that has been sitting in the sun can be a lot warmer (and it helps get all of the grass off kids as well!
Storage for your Kids Slip N Slide
One last thing you do not want to forget about is where you are going to put the slip and slide because if you leave it on the grass you are going to kill your grass. If you dry it out, a storage box will be perfect. I have a list of perfect storage boxes in my post on pool toy storage.
Slip and Slide Cleaning Tips
If you pulled out last year’s slip and slide and it is in less than ideal condition, you are going to need to clean it for the best slipping experience. Some dish soap and water and a soft brush should remove any mildew or slimy buildup from the winter.
